Hello Everyone!!!
I am writing to you from my very comfy couch. Today has been my catch up day, giving my car, apartment, emails, and dog some much needed attention. So much has gone one this week so I'll spare you the boring details and get straight to the meat :-)
Tuesday night was my first Tuesday night Opry (that statements seems mighty redundant…oh well) and my first Opry performance of the new year. I was able to do three songs, which gave me an opportunity to really interact with the audience more. I did "No Air", "Hurt Don't Know When to Quit", and "I'm Not of this World" and I think they went over really well. I was on the bill with Phil Stacey, Bucky Convington, and Carolina Rain, so it was a cool show. After my performance, I grabbed a little sushi for dinner and went to Legends on Broadway to hear my bass player Victor and new background singer Kristin perform with their band. Funny enough, everyone from the Opry, including Bucky, was hanging out there. The band sounded amazing, I felt like a proud mother listening to them. Kristin and Victor got me onstage and when Kristin introduced me, she called me "Rissi Taylor". She felt so bad when she realized the mistake but I thought it was hilarious and so now we refer to this as the "Rissi Taylor Band". Anyway, I sang a song and went back to the audience and enjoyed the music for a little while before heading home and going to bed.
The next couple days I spent trying to rest my voice. In the last year I've used my voice more than I ever have before and I've learned (sometimes the hard way) the benefits of being silent and careful with my voice. Its been difficult at times because anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to run my mouth but silence is GOLDEN when you are a singer.
The band and I left on Thursday night and drove to Midland, Michigan for a Friday night show. I was a little bummed because we were originally supposed to have an outdoor concert in this beautiful garden but because of rain, the show was moved inside. We arrived early afternoon, with just enough time for a workout and a shower before sound check and dinner. It's crazy how fast time goes in show days. Phyllis and everyone at the Midland Center of the Arts were so accommodating and had EVERYTHING we could ever want (including several bags of Hairbo Gummy Bears, my absolute favorite in the world), so me and the guys and girl :-) were very happy. I had just enough time after dinner to run back to the hotel and change clothes. As a side note, the band and I decided last week that we were going to start implementing theme nights with our clothes, so this week was "Leather" night LOL!!!! I wore my American Apparel "leather-like" leggings and a tunic. Victor and Kurt were the only other members that took me up on the theme, wearing leather pants!!! It was great though and I loved them for going along with me.
The show went great, the audience was lively and fun and we had a ball onstage. Paul walked up and talked on the mic with me, Ty did hits after I told jokes, and the guys laughed and interacted behind me, it was great!!! It was like we were at rehearsal or on the bus. At the end of the show, everyone stood up and applauded us, I was so happy!!!
We had a meet and greet afterwards and it seemed like everyone stayed around. I enjoyed talking with every body, the people of Midland are so sweet and friendly. I mentioned during the show how I was so excited about "Sex in the City" opening that night, so I got many offers to be taken to the movies!!! After about an hour, I went back to the bus, where everyone decided that they wanted to go to the local hang, Oscars, before we had to get back on the road, so we headed over to the bar. When we walked in, a lot of the audience members were there and they actually began to applaud us!!! It was such a sweet thing to do and I LOVED it!!! Kristin and I had a cosmopolitan in honor of "Sex in the City". Everyone really enjoyed themselves and the hospitality of Midland, so it was hard to pull them away at the end of the night.
I end this entry very happy to report that I finally saw my movie…yes, "Sex in the City", and I am excited to say that I was NOT disappointed!!! It was glamorous, funny, and emotional. My only gripe is that it was too long and the writing wasn't quite as clever as the tv show was, however I recommend it for anyone who loved the show as much as I did…
Be blessed and I'll talk to you all soon!!!
Rissi :-)
