About Me: Growing up in I.F. (International Falls, MN), my family actually lived on an island in the summer. It's true. There was no TV, which is why I fell in love with radio, I listened non-stop. We had to take a boat across the lake everytime we wanted to go into town. It was a great way to spend the summers, that is, until I started caring about what my hair looked like- all summer I sported the "wind blown" look! To this day I can make a bonnet/wind protector helmet out of any camoflauge coat, pants or vest you can throw at me.
Likes: Any veggies, pizza and even though I'm a vegetarian, every once in a while, I order the biggest slab of prime rib on the menu (medium rare)
Dislikes: Rude people, uncomfortable shoes and wet lettuce (I'm a big salad person and if the lettuce hasn't been properly dried, it makes the dressing watered down and the entire salad gets soggy..GROSS!)
Hobbies: I'm a speed walker. For anyone who doesn't know what that REALLY is, you're probably saying "so what"? But for those who've witnessed how truly idiotic it looks, let's just say, "you know what I'm talking about". I get laughed at and taunted on a daily basis.

    Our New Puppy...TUFFY!

    Monday, August 11, 2008, 02:29 PM [General]

Jeff and I got a puppy on Saturday!  I want to tell you what happened- because a puppy is not necessarily what we were looking for...

We've been talking about getting a dog for some time now and had decided on a breed- German Wirehair.  My parents have a Wirehair named Max and he's an awesome dog!  Plus, Jeff is allergic to pet dander so we needed to get a hair dog.  A puppy is A TON of work so we thought if we could find a dog that was a little older- it would be perfect.  This breed of dog is often used for hunting.  Since we're not going to hunt with ours, we thought we could get one that hadn't sold because it didn't have the characteristics of a good hunter.  You know, a dog that's easy going and NOT aggressive.

We thought we'd found the perfect dog. (this is the part that's terribly sad).  A breeder we'd been talking to didn't have any pups or dogs for sale, but knew a guy who had a year old Wirehair he was looking to "get rid of".  He said the dog was playful and social.  We arranged a time to drive up and see him on Saturday.  It was terrible!  The kennel was filthy.  The dog was not only filthy, but had a huge sore on his ear.  The saddest part- he was TERRIFIED of people.  When the owner walked up to him, the dog cowered in fear peeing all over the place (a sign of submission and possibly worse- but I'm not going to make accusations) and would barley allow anyone to touch him.  After almost a year, the guy hadn't even bothered to give him a name.  When we left, I had a huge lump in my throat and was holding back tears.  We obviously didn't take him home, but we are reporting the conditions to the proper authorities.

I didn't tell this part of the story for any other reason then to remind people that we all need to make sure to take care of the animals that can't take care of themselves.  The idea of that guy trying to sell us a dog that, in all honesty, I think needs to be rescued is asinine!

    ...on to the happier part!

As we were on our way home, Jeff and I were talking about what we needed to do about that poor dog and realized, we just we missed our exit.

We ended up in Anoka when suddenly there was a sign that read "Anoka Game Fair".  At this point it was 4:50pm.  Jeff said, "I think breeders bring their pups to game fairs, let's check it out".  We turned off the main road and headed to the game fair.

Once we paid $4 to park in someone's yard, we headed toward the main gates.  People were walking the other way in flocks and it was clear- if the Game Fair wasn't wrapping up for the day- it was about to.  Along the road, there were puppies for sale EVERYWHERE.  Black labs, yellow labs, chocolate labs, golden retrievers- as we got to the (now closed) main gate- there it was- a sign that read "GERMAN WIREHAIRS".  I ran to the pen, they had two males left!  It was fate!  We had to get one.  Little Tuffy woke up, gave us the "pick me" look and that was it- we went home with a Wirehair!  The ride home was interesting to say the least.  I'll save that part of the story until tomorrow!

Paris Hilton's rebuttle to the John McCain ad!

    Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 10:32 AM [General]

I'm not the biggest (or even the littlest) Paris Hilton fan- but I thought this was pretty funny.

If you missed the story, McCain had used images in a tv ad of Paris and Britney Spears to compare Barack Obama, basically saying Obama is famous and not ready to lead the country- Paris is mad that the tv spot showed her in a bad light.

    Check out the clip!

    Hey Amy -

I listen all day and read the blog yesterday about the neighbors. Let me know how the whole neighbor thing turns out, as I have a friend that is going though something similar and could use some ideas! I wish you the best with that.

I just wanted to let you know what has happened here in little ol' Plymouth, mn. My wife entered the Monkeyville video contest to see who is KU's biggest fan and she was selected to be one of 3 fans to be followed around and taped for a show coming out on GAC this June. we went to the 2 shows down in Hotlanta where she was videoed before during and after the show, got to meet some of the band and met Keith backstage during the show. the film crew are coing out to our house tuesday may 6th to finallize the rest of the taping and all. I think it would be way cool to have a big get-together the night that it airs.
